چکیده

This study was done to discover tbe underlying mechanism of the inhibitory effect of sericin against colon tumorigenesis. Mice were fed a diet with 30 g!kg sericin for 115 d, and giyen a weekly iajection of 1,2dimethylhydrazine (10 mglkg body weight) for the initial 10 wk. Dietary supplemental sericin caused a 62% reduction in the incictence of colonic adenoma (P<O.05), but did not affect the incidence of co]onic adenecarcinoma. Sericin intake significantly reduced the number of colon adenornas. Consumption of sericin significantly reduced the BrdU labeling index of colonic proliferating cells and the expression of colenic c-myc and c:fbs. The leye]s of co]enic 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, 4-hydroxynonenal, and inducible nihic oxide synthase protein were significantly suppressed by sericin. The results suggest that dietary sericin suppresses the deyelopment ef colon tumors by reducing oxidative stress, cell proliferation, and nitric oxide production.

Silk protein, sericin, suppresses DMBA-TPA-induced mouse skin tumorigenesis by reducing oxidative stress, inflammatory responses and endogenous tumor promoter TNF-alpha.

This study was conducted to assess protective effect of an antioxidant protein, sericin, on tumor promotion in the 7,12-dimethylbenz (alpha) anthracene (DMBA)-initiated and 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA)-promoted mouse skin tumorigenesis model. In experiment 1, sericin was applied topically to DMBA-initiated female ICR mouse skin at the doses of 2.5 and 5 mg twice per week for 16 we...

Dietary vitamin B6 suppresses colon tumorigenesis, 8-hydroxyguanosine, 4-hydroxynonenal, and inducible nitric oxide synthase protein in azoxymethane-treated mice.

Recently we reported that the supplementation of vitamin B6 to low vitamin B6 diet caused suppression in colon tumorigenesis and cell proliferation of azoxymethane-treated mice in a dose-dependent manner among 1, 7, and 14 mg pyridoxine HCl/kg diet (J. Nutr. 131: 2204-2207, 2001). To examine the mechanism of the anticolon tumor effect of vitamin B6, male ICR mice were fed the diet containing 1,...

Antioxidant potential of silk protein sericin against hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress in skin fibroblasts.

The antioxidant potential of silk protein sericin from the non-mulberry tropical tasar silkworm Antheraea mylitta cocoon has been assessed and compared with that of the mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori. Skin fibroblast cell line (AH927) challenged with hydrogen peroxide served as the positive control for the experiment. Our results showed that the sericin obtained from tasar cocoons offers protec...

The silk proteins, sericin and fibroin in silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn., - a review

The domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn., a lepidopteran molecular model and an important economic insect that are emerging as an ideal molecular genetic resource for solving a broad range of biological problems. The silkworm, B. mori produces massive amount of silk proteins during the final stage of larval development. These proteins are stored in the middle silk gland and they are dischar...

Resistant starch prevents tumorigenesis of dimethylhydrazine-induced colon tumors via regulation of an ER stress-mediated mitochondrial apoptosis pathway

Resistant starch is as common soluble fiber that escapes digestion in the small intestine and can regulate intestinal function, metabolism of blood glucose and lipids, and may prevent tumorigenesis of gastrointestinal cancer. Epidemiology and other evidence have suggested that resistant starch may prevent colon cancer development. The aim of the current study was to explore the ameliorative eff...
